Summer Camps at A Joyful mess
When are they?
Monday-Thursday from either 9am-1pm or 2pm-6pm
With the exception of the week of the 4th of July. That week we will have a couple one day Mini-Camps you can register for.
The first Tween & Teen Only Camp will run Tuesday-Friday because of Memorial Day.
Is my child old enough?
Summer camps are designed for children who will be going into 1st grade for the 24-25 school year AND are 6 or older. (No exceptions) We do have Tween & Teen Summer Camps for children who will be going into 5th -8th grade for the 24-25 school year. However, incoming 5th graders are also welcome to join any of the other camps as well!
What Makes A Joyful Mess Different than any other camp?
There are lots of things that make our camps the BEST! Our team are all adults that are certified art teachers or practicing artists. They are passionate about children and art and making your child’s experience at A Joyful Mess an exceptional one! All our projects are created in studio by art educators building in art education, exploration with a variety of mediums and tools, use of high quality art supplies and dedicated to building confidence and fostering your child’s love of art!
What Will my child do during camp?
All things creative! We do plenty of drawing and painting, but we also explore clay creating, paper mache, wire, metal tooling foil, polymer clay, acrylic paints, india ink, printing, sewing, design, and more. We focus on the joy and creativity that comes during the process of making art. Of course something beautiful at the end is a plus, but we are here to build relationships, foster creative thinking, and create an EPIC summer camp experience for your child!
How many kids and teachers are in each camp?
Each camp has 20 children with one teacher and one teacher’s assistant. Our assistants are college students or high school students who have been with A Joyful Mess for a many summer camps. We love building lasting relationships with our college and high school kids so that we can foster their love of art and teaching, and help them gain confidence and experience in the world of art education! They are an added JOY to our summer camps!
How does drop-off and pick-up work?
The first day, we ask that you walk your child into the building and meet the teacher. The teacher will check your child in with our iPad. For pick-up, please walk to the front of the building by the door. The teacher will open the door and ask your child’s name and call out to your child. They will meet you right outside the door as the teacher confirms that you’ve got your child. You are also welcome to come into the studio AFTER camp is over at either 1pm or 6pm to meet your child for pick-up.
What should they bring?
A sack lunch (we are a peanut free studio) and water bottle. They also need to wear clothes that can get messy! Just in case. We do sell studio t-shirts that would be perfect to wear to camp! :)
What is the investment?
Most camps are $325 with the exception of our Dollhouse camp (which is $350). Artists at Dollhouse camp will get to take home a handmade high quality wooden dollhouse making this camp just a little bit more. Camps are paid in full at the time of registration and there is a 10% sibling discount.
Will you sell out?
This will be our 5th summer of camps and every year we sell out by March! However, we do have a couple “ghost weeks” built in for July and will see which camps are super popular and we will add a few more!
What else should I know?
Camp is a drop-off activity. Doors will open 5 minutes before camp starts. Pick-up is promptly at either 1pm or 6pm. Cancellations made within 14 days of the camp start date are non-refundable. Cancellations made before 14 days of the start date will be refunded minus a $75 deposit. There are no make-up days or refunds for missed days of camp. We do not make expectations for our age policy.
